Soljul

Vi försöker dela upp julfirandet i två delar, den 24e och 25e. Vi firade med några av våra vänner från staterna vilket innebar att julen fick amerikanska inslag; söt mat (sötpotatis gratäng med karamelltäcke, pekanpaj, pumpapaj...), fint umgänge - återträff med gamla kompisar som vi bodde ihop med 2008, rugby vid stranden osv. Det blev en helt ok jul här, trots att vi saknade vår familj och 30 graders värme. Det var härligt att få fokusera på julens storslagna budskap och slippa kommersen, jul och julklapps-stressen.

Att fira jul här har lockat fram många olika tankar. De flesta berör de uppenbara orättvisorna i landet, hur vissa kan fira stort och dyrt och att vi kan sitta i ett varmt hus fullt av mat, medan det bor ca 40.000 i plåtskjul 5 minuter ifrån vårt hus. Joy to the world måste betyda mer rättvisa för världens fattigaste.

Below are some pics from our Christmas celebration, which turned out a little bit american this year as we celebrated with our good friends, mainly from the states. Although we missed family we enjoyed the South African less commercial Christmas, with focus on the beautiful Christmas message. It also turned out to be a reunion of some of the people we spend time with when we lived here 2008.

Celebrating Christmas here has provoked a lot of thoughts, particularly regarding the obvious class differences and poverty in this country. Some can celebrate in a cozy house full of food and gifts and only 5 minutes away there's a township of approx 40.000 people who live in shacks... Joy to the world must mean more justice for the poorest people in the world!
